Feeling a bit shaky? Creating HEALTHY resilience creates MORE

One of the most powerful skills you can develop as a leader is resilience: the ability to bounce back from difficulties, adapt to challenges, and grow stronger from difficult experiences and disappointments. And boy do we need it right now. Since the pandemic, I think most of us have an awareness of our individual and unique approach to challenging circumstances.

And perhaps, now is a time to shift those survival skills a bit. Let me explain.

My old way of handling difficult challenges looked like this. 1. Over focus on the problem at hand. 2. Put all of my mental energy into solving said problem. 3. Worry about it but outwardly stay positive no matter what. 4. Keep going until the problem is resolved. 5. And then onto the next problem.

This energy of doing can be really helpful at moving things forward. But looking back at stressful times in my life, I was pushing through and I was masking and ignoring any of my true feelings. This way of solving also ignored what those around me really needed at the time. Think of the “bull in a china shop” analogy. Sometimes this is the shadow side of being a person with a high capacity. Just because we can doesn’t always mean we should. And just because we can doesn’t mean we should ignore our emotional experience as we move through difficulty.

I learned a new way in the fire of a shocking life change while also staying committed to creating a thriving coaching practice. But you don’t have to wait until your circumstances are overwhelming to start implementing a more grounded approach. I'm inviting you to a life that honors your human experience in a big way.

The new way looks a bit like this (you know I love a method) 1. Honor the reality and emotional experience of the difficulty at hand. 2. Give emotions time to move through. 3. Bring in resources that support this new way of slowing down. 4. Stay in the present and honor your integrity and values in decision making. 5. Then take action once the next steps are clear from a grounded space.

This way of being not only feels different but I think has a different effect. It becomes easier to stay calm when ‘shit hits the fan’. It enriches the relationships in your life both professional and personal. When you are the most grounded person in the room, your insight and guidance are good for everyone around you.

At first it was excruciating to slow down. But in many ways I had to let my body and the emotional experience catch up to what I was experiencing. I’m such a quick start and ‘move through’ person that this more grounded way of living felt awkward at first. But oh is it worth it. When we slow down and honor our human experience in this way, we begin to see what we really want for our lives and relationships. It gives us space to begin creating a more aligned life.

THIS is everything. For some they call it coming home. For me it was stepping into my grounded power as a leader and coach. It was creating a personal life that looked amazing and fueled the growth of my business at the same time. It feels somewhat miraculous. This growth came from simply slowing down and honoring myself in a new way. It’s the type of growth that is lasting and supportive.

Would you love to integrate and implement a new way of operating through ALL that is coming at you as a leader and business owner? I would love to support what you are up to in the world and help you to experience the miracle of grounded and high vision growth, no matter what the challenges are in your life right now.
