The Dirty Secret of Transformation II and the Emotional Landscape of Change

As we close the longest January in history, I want to share another truth that I reluctantly but powerfully learned in the past 3 years. Yes, RELUCTANTLY but so worth it

Transformation is all about change. It can be exciting, it’s new and change is welcomed because it means growth and evolution.. Also, change is all about what we are creating next. What is not to like? Am I right? And I’m talking about both a personal evolution and any that you are creating in your business.

Most shifts in our lives, welcomed or chosen, cause not only discomfort but big emotion, the ughhh kind..

From this coach’s lens, there are at least 2 problems with that. But don’t worry, I'm gonna offer some solutions here {and next week}.

  1. Most of us are masters at pushing and ignoring emotion. This is what we’re taught. Emotional experiences are not welcomed in ‘professional’ culture. We think we will feel better if we push it down.. So when emotions arrive, especially unexpectedly or from a difficult event, we push it down. Might I say until we can’t anymore.

  2. Resistance is normal but is not our friend and here is why. The normal emotions that come with change and disruptive experiences in our lives can feel pretty terrible. Our normal reaction is to resist them. When we resist experiencing them, they feel stronger. We can then get stuck in them. Such a cruel truth.

What if there was a better way? What if it was simple but so new it felt awkward at first.

What if shifting our relationship to these emotional experiences was all we had to do to:

  • Stay Grounded

  • Not get stuck or overwhelmed

  • To feel more connection to our passion

  • To honor our genius and wisdom

  • And to feel better and less stressed

I offer you a few questions today and a beautiful email with resources next week. AND if this is getting your attention, join the workshop in February, I’ll flesh the entire subject out.

  • What is your relationship with your emotional experience?

  • Could you add more curiosity when things feel tough and stressful?

  • What would it be like to not react to your emotions? Would that take a layer of stress off of you?

See you next week with more,

Diana

p.s. Next month I’m offering a full transformational workshop giving you a new insight and new resources around how to incorporate emotional agency into your leadership style. It’s powerful, healing and impactful to not only honor your emotions but know how to relate to them and let them pass through.
