Friyay: Celebrating and Favorites

Sharing some of my favorite things with you today

Happy last week of summer vaca for my Atlanta parent friends! It’s still disorienting to me that school starts in early August, but after watching my fellow business owners grapple for great childcare during the summer and fun summer camps for your kids, I bet you’re a little relieved. Happy first days of school to all!!

Today I’m celebrating my mom’s birthday. She is 96! Ok how is this possible. I’m so fortunate and my mom is blessed with great mental health. We are so fortunate to have a healthy relationship and she has been a big support to me all along the way and in the tough spots, too. Thanks mom, you’re the best. I’ll be spending a gal’s weekend with her soon.

In the theme of celebrating and my desire to share some of my favorite things with you. Here’s what is on my mind. Basically this is what is helping make my life great.

I used to be the self help junkie in terms of podcast listening. I have some of those to share but the first one has been so fun! Here’s my current podcast play list.

Amy Poehler’s podcast: Good Hang has been so fun. It has featured some of my favorite stars. I mean where in the world do you get a behind the scenes look at Carol Burnett’s life. Some of the stars I actually need to google beforehand but then realize who they are from her Saturday Night Live or Parks and Recs days. It is always funny and I love behind the scene peeks at people’s lives.

We Can Do Hard Things (Glennon Doyle, Abby Wambach, Amanda Doyle) is fabulous and this podcast has grown so much over the years. From soccer mania conversations, to self help, to Amanda’s eloquent lawyer brain explanations of our current political/economic/legal situation in our country. This is a good one!

Episode recommendation: I haven’t listened to many of the podcasts on this podcast show but this one I’ve recommended at least 15 times this month to clients and others healing from relationships that weren’t healthy. Navigating Narcissism by Dr. Ramani: Betrayal Blindness, Episode 7/13/23. This has explained some of my waiting behavior in a way that is really helpful to me. I’ve started reading the book by same title by Dr. Jennifer Freyd and it’s helpful.

More fun: Music!!!! I have been introduced to new music since I met Eric, my husband. Favorites include: Nation of Language, Sharon Van Etton, Yumi Zouma, Geowulf, Alvvays, The Midnight, Canons, Blondshell, Wild Nothing, Beach Fossils, Wild Pink, Hazel English and Cigarettes After Sex. I am still a 70’s girl but this new music has been fun live and recorded. We’ve gone out of town for concerts and this is so fun.

Food: I married a foodie and a great cook. So Asian food of all types are my new favorites from restaurants on Buford Highway.. Hit us up any time for recommendations. Eric got a new grill for his birthday and I’m remembering how easy grill dinners are, perfect timing for summer veggies. I’m so thankful that I’m not in diet mentality anymore, such great dining experiences are happening at home and in great restaurants.

Grands: My granddaughters are growing up too fast and being with them on FaceTime and in person has been SO fun. They bring so much joy to all of us. We hung with them for a weekend while my son and daughter in love went away, and we did it!!! Turns out parenting skills don’t ever fully retire.

Work: Yup work has been a lot of fun this summer. The group events I’m hosting are impactful to those that attend and myself. I’m writing a lot, getting great support with a new VA that I will be using more and more and finally met some amazing women I had done life with online and got to meet them in person. Would love your recommendations for podcasts and music and shows, bring it on!!!

Have a wonderful weekend and thanks for being here,

Diana

P.S. I absolutely love my life and am celebrating it all the time. It is NOT without challenges, it’s real and normal but………. This did not come naturally. About 14 years ago I was getting internal signals that I was NOT happy. It took a long time to learn to take really good care of myself. I highly recommend it. I have some new simple offers on ways to work with me now, if you want to step into your life and have more to celebrate along the way, I’m here for it.
