With all of the New Year’s Resolutions and focus on goal setting, I want to talk about your relationship with your Goals. Yes, your relationship, all of the thoughts you have basically think, with your goals.
- Do you love your goals?
- Do you think your goals should make you happy?
- Do you use your goals as a weapon?
- Do your goals motivate you or do they stop you in your tracks?
- How do you feel when you state your goal?
That wasn’t a rhetorical question. Because……
…what you think about your goals, every time you engage with them, will create the likelihood of hitting that goal. For sure.
Jot down a few notes on how you feel about your goals.
Can you relate this? I’ve realized that I was using goal setting as a punishment for what I DID NOT DO THE YEAR BEFORE. Well you didn’t lose weight last year, so set a goal for an extremely low weight on that scale sister and get to work. Or as a new business owner as I was rounding year 2 and 3, I literally, set the bar so high I freaked myself out. By brain was offering, ” well you didn’t figure out how to hit bigger financial goals last year, clearly you’re not good enough” . Let’s see if you can hit THIS (really high $$ goal) and show yourself worthy.
Obviously, this goal setting style DID NOT WORK!! I had no idea what was going on at the time but I created so many horrible, negative thoughts in my mind about my worth, my ability and my future, that of course I did not hit those goals.
Are you using your goals against yourself my friend? Are you sick of not hitting growth even though you’re working really hard? Be careful and use your goal setting in a way that MOTIVATES you. How?
I’m just going to ask you one simple question? Do you realize (I know I didn’t because of my crappy thoughts) that you are more than worthy, you’re frickin’ amazing whether you hit that goal or not? That really is the truth and once you believe it my friend, the results, the money, the weight loss, the client growth, whatever your heart is wanting more of………it will come your way in the most beautiful and joyful way ever. That’s what I have learned and it has changed everything.
