I wrote you a little note last month about our willingness to work hard and how that might just be getting in our way of achieving our goals of weight loss and overall health. I want to dig in a little more and share with you what I learned during my bumpy journey but also what I’m learning from my fabulous clients.
Let’s go back, does this sound like you? Whenever I was working on losing weight with a new program or diet, I was ALWAYS willing to do whatever it took to succeed. And unfortunately that “whatever” looked like fad diets, restrictive eating, abuse with exercise and all sorts of crazy things. There was even fasting and diet pills, man, what was I thinking?
Well I was thinking, “I’ll do whatever it takes to lose weight.” And by thinking that way I literally did whatever it took without much thought or wisdom. Many of my clients come to me and say that they are not willing to go on another crazy diet or commit to working out crazy hours, etc. And that my friends is a very good thing.
Maybe we need to take our beautiful, determined, “whatever it takes” personalities and do “whatever it takes” to listen to our body’s wisdom.
Let me help you by turning the conversation around in your head and help you to practice doing whatever it takes to honor your body’s signals. It’s simple but it takes some practice.
- Am I Hungry?
- Do I need a little walk today? Oooh stretching sounds good? Or is my body craving a sweaty workout?
- Do I need more rest? Are cat naps the key or do I need to put myself to bed?
- What do I really want to eat now that I’m hungry? What makes me feel good?
It might be new to listen to your body’s wisdom but IT KNOWS what is best for us.
Are you willing to do “whatever it takes” and begin listening?
Our bodies do know. Diets and all the best advice in the world don’t have a clue. Seriously, I think I’ve maintained my weight better by enjoying bacon a little more often than you’d think. Yes, juicy, crisp bacon. Because sometimes, my body loves it and then is content for the rest of the day.
