A client and I were processing some of the highlights and challenges she was having this past week and during our call we created a cool strategy to handle the problem of strong emotions during the work day.
What do you do when you are raving mad but need to show up for a client meeting or appointment in like 10 minutes??
Stop for a minute and see what is going on for you in that moment SO THAT you can show up like you?d love to in that meeting. This is mindset and mental self-care at it?s finest.
I came up with 3 questions that you and I can use the next time this happens.?
Get out pen and paper??…
- What are all the emotions you?re feeling right now?
- Why? List every thought that comes to mind?? Breath Calmly?
- Now, how do YOU want to show up? In your next call/appt/meeting, etc.
Now put that paper in the shredder and handle what is next in your day.
This is one of the quickest ways to clear your mind. Why does this work??
Because you are?honoring your emotions and letting them go?instead of stewing or stuffing them down. And you are choosing what to think instead of reacting to one situation and bringing it to the second situation.?
No reason to ruin the rest of your day from that one reaction of anger, am I right? But strong emotions can be tough to clear because they aren?t appropriate to express sometimes. Try this next week, let me know if it works for you.
