I don?t know about you but I love fast: fast cars, fast meetings, fast answers to questions I have, fast responses to emails and DEFINITELY fast results when I work really hard on something.
But what if slowing down sped things up when it comes to weight loss?
In my new BARE program, there?s a book I recommend to clients. The Slow Down Diet by Marc David. It?s got me thinking in an entirely new way.
Here are some quotes that really got my attention:
?If you?ve worked for a stronger metabolism but have not achieved success, there?s one basic reason why: you?re moving too fast.? (Pg. 2)
?The inescapable truth is that we can only achieve and sustain optimum metabolism when we eat, exercise and live under optimum emotional state.? (Pg. 3)
?How we think directly affects our metabolism, which impacts how we are able or not able to digest a meal.?
?Simply put, the same part of our brain that turns on stress turns off digestion. And conversely, the part of the brain that turns on the relaxation response turns on full, healthy digestive power.? (Pg. 19)
How do we apply this information in our fast paced, hectic lives?
- Make Meal Time a media free zone, away from your desk, eating at a table or nice chair. You know, eat like a French person.
- Take 3 deep breaths before you start your meal. Help your mind to slow down and that metabolism to speed up.
- Choose foods that you love, savor them. Even if it is take-out, what you choose matters. Entertain the pleasure centers of your brain.
Could it be that simple? Yes, I think so.
Email me: Where are you having trouble slowing down? What is happening for you?
